


Making a slab built box with lid
Set in the lush greenery of the village of Emerald in the Dandenong Ranges, these workshops will introduce you to making and glazing a slab-built box with a lid.
With a class maximum of 4 people, you will expand on your beginner’s skills to explore the different techniques used for developing, designing and building a slab box. You will have an opportunity to explore the use of a slab roller, rolling guides, rolling pins and/or kidney tools to roll a perfect slab every time which is the foundation for your lidded box.
This is a two day workshop:
Day 1: Slab building
Day 2: Glazing
You will further explore joining seams using a bevel cutting tool, scratching tools, slip and coils for fail proof joins (most of the time).
Finished & glazed boxes will be fired and ready for pick up two weeks later. Please note, due to their size, boxes cannot be mailed.
Knowledge required
Some experience with clay preferred but not essential
The class includes:
Tuition
Clay
Firing of up to two boxes with lids
Tea, coffee and a light lunch will be provided
Knowledge Required
No previous knowledge or experience required.
What to bring:
Think about what you want on your lid to lift it with – a knob, a ring pull or other?
Warm clothing in the cooler months – Temperature in the Ranges is definitely colder
An apron (they are available to purchase if desired) &/or clothing that is OK to get dirty
Additional charges:
Split leg aprons are available for purchase at $43.00 (10% discount on day - normally $48.00)
Beginners pottery tools and banding wheels are available for purchase POA

You can cancel or reschedule up to 24 hours before your workshop starts with no fee incurred. If less than 24-hour’s notice is given, you will be refunded 50% off the course cost only.
